Reading, Reflections, and Questions:
The newest technology from Apple, the Ipad, was released recently.
It looks absolutely amazing and can pretty much do everything that
all other technological devices can do and so much more.
I wonder if I can afford one?
School is deemed boring by students because we as teachers are failing to engage them with what is current in society, like technology.
Our students have grown up using technology and are schools fail to recognize that which creates a disconnect between our students and their learning. Our curriculum does not address the situations of our present and future students, therefore, the curriculum needs to change if we want learning to take place.
Interesting to note is that Digital Immigrants will never be as fluent or capable in technology as Digital Natives because they always have a bit of themselves in the past; always will revert back to old ways of learning things.
Quick processing, multi-tasking, and hand held devices are the learning styles of the present and future.
Todays learners are vastly different from the learners that our school system is created to teach. We need to learn to communicate in their language and style.
WE as teachers need to figure out how to intergrate the new technologies that our students are using (ipods and the like) into our classrooms and into our lessons.
Software and How to Use it:
This week we worked with handheld camcorders and made short videos using software such as Format Factory and Windows Movie Maker. It was fun seeing the different things we could add and enhance in our video. By experimenting and seeing all the things you can do to videos and experiencing just how easy it is to use, we can see how beneficial it would be to use in our students learning, especially when compiling projects. To check out what Kristin, Taylor and I came up with, cick on the video below.
