Reading, Reflections, and Ouestions:
Web-filtering: This article looks at the on-going conflict of whether the government should enact web-filtering guidelines or not, especially in regards to the increasing number of youth using the internet on a daily basis and have access at their fingertips.

  • On one side the argument is that the internet should be controlled because of the information that is present like webpages dedicated to making bombs, or promoting acts of racism and violence and so forth.
  • On the other side they argue there should not be web-filtering. Students need to see the information that is out there are they have a right to know. However, this argument states that parents and teachers should teach students how to navigate the internet safely, it even calls for a reform of the curriculum to include web safety.


Lesson Plan Presentations:
Lesson 1- Grade 9 Geography
-lesson plan was based on push and pull factors. They looked at immigration during the 19th Century and had us to a immigration simulation activity using paper passports.
-We also did a game online that helped us learn the differences between push and pull factors.

Lesson 2- Grade 10 History
-Web Quest using Google books

Lesson 3- Grade 9 Science
-Periodic Table-each student was given a different element to investigate using the internet.
-each student was to collect information on their element and create a wiki-page about it.

Lesson 4- Grade 10 English
-Showed us how to use Comic-Life using A Midsummers Night Dream as the plot line.

Lesson 5- This lesson Kristen, Taylor, and Mines.

Lesson 6-Grade 12 Exercise Science
-They started us off by doing a DPA-Daily Physical Activity to burn off the Hershey's kiss they gave us.
-we were directed to the dietians of Ontario website where we could enter information in a food and activity journal.

Lesson 7- Grade 10 Math
-Had us do Math problems about Surface Area and Volume and problems that were occuring at NASA.
-They used video clips and pictures of the space station.

Lesson 8- French Immersion
-They wanted us to do a documentary of the postive and negative aspects of being a pioneer in New France.
-A podcast would have portrayed these aspects

What I learned this week:
-Web-filtering- The for and against arguments of web-filtering. I think we shouldn't have web-filtering, but should definitely teach our students how to properly navigate the internet.
-How to use ComicLife.
-From the Math lesson-I still find math difficult (haha)
